§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in the light of the Pearson Commission recommendations, it remains his intention to legislate for a higher deposit as an alternative to motor insurance cover.
§ Mr. HoramThe Pearson Commission, while supporting the Government's view that the level of deposit is too low, has recommended that the making of a deposit as an alternative to compulsory motor insurance should be abolished. The Commission's recommendations are being studied and interested organisations consulted. When consultations are completed we shall consider whether to adhere to the intention to legislate to increase the deposit or to abolish the alternative.
