HC Deb 24 April 1978 vol 948 c446W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what discussions he has had with the Chairman of British Petroleum about the level of that company's future refining capacity in the United Kingdom and, in particular, about the future of the Isle of Grain refinery.

Mr. Benn

I met Sir David Steel on 13th March as part of the confidential consultations between BP and my Department provided for in the participation agreement. The scope of these consultations includes BP's activities at each of its United Kingdom refineries and I stressed the importance I attach to maintaining the level of throughput at all United Kingdom refineries.
