HC Deb 24 April 1978 vol 948 c450W
Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the total amount of public money committed to British Leyland since 1975; and how much per employee of British Leyland this represents.

Mr. Les Huckfield

The total amount of public money committed to British Leyland since the Ryder Report in 1975—including the £200 million equity funds advanced in 1975 and excluding small amounts of public funds committed under various schemes of assistance available to industry generally—is £800 million, of which £625 million has been paid. On the basis of the total numbers employed by British Leyland at the end of 1977, the amount paid represents £3,212 per employee.
