Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the average occupational death rate in industry for each of the years since 1970; and what this is expressed as a proportion of the labour force.

Mr. John Grant

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 20th April 1978], gave the following information:

The Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission informs me that the information is not available in the precise form required. Accidents are still reported to the Health and Safety Executive under legislation passed before the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act came into force, and the following tables show the number and incidence—per 100,000 employees at risk-of fatalities resulting from accidental
