HC Deb 14 April 1978 vol 947 c578W
Mr. MacGregor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many Inland Revenue staff are engaged in collection of (i) capital gains tax, (ii) development land tax, (iii) capital transfer tax and estate duties and (iv) stamp duties.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

It is estimated that the equivalent of about 210 full-time staff units are employed in local collection offices, and in head office units concerned with enforcement, on the work of collecting capital gains tax. For the other taxes mentioned collection work is, in the main, integrated with the assessment and ancillary work; and in each case only a handful of man years would be used on this particular function.
