HC Deb 12 April 1978 vol 947 c456W
43. Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is preparing proposals to exempt house extensions and alterations from the application of building regulations; and, if so, what effect they will have on the safety of houses.

Mr. Armstrong

No, but the Building Research Establishment has in hand a preliminary investigation of the feasibility of exempting some house extensions and alterations from normal building control procedures, though not from compliance with the regulations, without detriment to safety and health.
