HC Deb 11 April 1978 vol 947 cc358-9W
Mr. Fernyhough

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now announce whom he intends to appoint as chairman of the National Water Council on the retirement of the present chairman.

Mr. Shore

I have decided to appoint Sir Robert Marshall to succeed Lord Nugent when he retires at the end of September this year. His term of office will be for five years.

I should like to pay tribute to Lord Nugent's work at the council since 1973. Successive Ministers have cause to be grateful to him for the contribution he has made to tackling the problems of the water industry, not least during the exceptional drought of 1976.
