§ Mr. Craigenasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many workers in the distributive industry will not be covered by the levy proposals contained in S.I. No. 363, 1978 by reason of the exemption of employers whose emoluments are less than £17,000; and what proportion these workers represent of the total labour force covered by the activities of the Distributive Industry Training Board.
§ Mr. GoldingI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that approximately 750,000 workers in the distributive industry are employed by companies whose emoluments are less than £17,000 and who will therefore not be covered by the levy proposals contained inStatutory Instrument, No. 363, 1978. Those employees represent about one-third of the total labour force employed by companies in scope to the Distributive Industry Training Board.
