HC Deb 11 April 1978 vol 947 cc372-3W
47. Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the current incidence of bed sores in National Health Service hospitals; and what steps he is taking to reduce it.

Mr. Moyle

Information necessary to make an estimate is not held centrally. Minimising the incidence of bed sores is an important aspect of nursing care, and there is a wide range of patient support systems, including special mattresses, available to hospitals to assist in the treatment and prevention of bed sores. My Department has assisted in the development of some of this equipment and is currently sponsoring further development and evaluation work.
