Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will hold an investigation into the reason why tax inspectors in many cases have not granted a tax allowance on the full current allowance agreed with the unions; and if he will instruct inspectors to check all allowances forthwith and grant the correct relief, and also to make, retrospectively, the proper allowance for the past six years.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 7th April 1978]. gave the following information:

Tax offices are instructed to give the tax allowances agreed with unions, except in cases where the employer bears part of all of the cost. If my hon. Friend has any particular cases in mind I will gladly look into them.
