HC Deb 10 April 1978 vol 947 c318W
34. Mr. Durant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the level of industrial production at the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The latest published index of industrial production relates to January 1978, when the provisional seasonally-adjusted all-industries index was 102.9.

The use for some industries of series which measure deliveries rather than production can result in the index number overstating or understating the level of output. In the fourth quarter of 1977, when the all-industries index stood at 101.7, it is estimated that the implied level of industrial output was 102—seasonally adjusted, 1970½100.
