asked the Minister for the Civil Service what the pension entitlement would be after 10, 15, 20, 30, and 32 years' service, respectively, of a civil servant on the same rate of pay as an hon. Member.

The pension and lump sum payable to a civil servant whose pensionable pay is £8,208 are shown in columns 1 and 2 of the following table. It also shows, for convenience, the hypothetical pension that would have been payable to a Member of Parliament at 31st March 1978 with the same service and relevant terminal salary—column 3—and the resulting pension and lump sum—columns 4 and 5—where the pension
