HC Deb 06 April 1978 vol 947 cc212-4W
Mr. Bradford

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will retain the present level of concessionary bus fares in respect of those who are 70 years old in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Carter

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. George Gardiner

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many local authorities operate concessionary fares schemes for retirement pensioners in their areas under a "permits" system; how many under a "tokens" system and how many arrange for free transport upon proof of retirement.

Mr. Carter

Local authorities in Northern Ireland do not have any major transport functions. However, the three main Northern Ireland public transport undertakings, Ulsterbus, Citybus and Northern Ireland Railways either already offer a half-fare concession to all aged 65 or over, or intend to do so shortly.
