HC Deb 05 April 1978 vol 947 cc141-2W
52. Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will indicate to the Council of European Transport Ministers that Her Majesty's Government would not accept a reduction from 14 to 12 in the age limit for child fares on British railways.

Mr. William Rodgers

As I explained on 8th March to my hon. Friend the Member for Chester-le-Street (Mr. Radice)—[Vol. 945, c. 699.]—neither the Council of the EEC nor the Commission has made any request for the age limit for children's fares on British Rail to be reduced from 14 to 12. I would certainly not regard such a proposition as acceptable.
