Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the policy of the Inland Revenue progressively to shorten the period it will permit companies to delay in remitting PAYE due to the Revenue.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 4th April 1978], gave the following information:

PAYE tax is due to be paid over to the collector within 14 days of the end of the tax month in which the deductions are made. There has been no recent change in the Inland Revenue's practice in applying the regulations so as to secure prompt payment.
