HC Deb 05 April 1978 vol 947 cc142-3W
56. Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the total mileage of motorways now completed and open to the public at the latest convenient date; how much of that mileage is for three-lane carriage-ways and how much for two-lane carriage-ways; and what plans he has to up-grade all the two-lane carriage-ways to three-lane carriage-ways.

Mr. Horam

On 1st October 1977 there were 1,285 miles of trunk road motorway in England. 290 miles were dual two-lane; the other 995 were mostly dual three-lane, but included a very small amount of dual four-lane. There were also 58 miles of local authority motorway. We shall consider improvements, where necessary, on their merits.
