HC Deb 05 April 1978 vol 947 cc153-4W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is being done to simplify the procedure, and provide parking, for those requiring customs clearance in Londonderry.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

I have been asked to reply.

As the hon. Member is aware, Customs last year introduced a simplified procedure which enables a copy of the official document supplied by exporters in the Republic to be used to establish the entitlement of goods to free entry into Northern Ireland. On 1st April 1978 a new import entry processing system was introduced which should generally simplify procedures and improve clearance times. Other measures being studied would further reduce the number of Customs forms in use and simplify the procedures for particular types of traffic.

Customs are not aware of any parking problems directly related to the obtaining of customs clearance at Londonderry.
