HC Deb 04 April 1978 vol 947 cc92-3W
16. Sir P. Bryan

asked the Secretary of State for Employment in what areas the experiment on paying unemployment pay fortnightly was carried out.

Mr. Harold Walker

Following is a list of the areas in which the experiment of paying unemployment benefits fortnightly was carried out:

Act 1970 and have carried through the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and the Race Relations Act 1976. The Equal Opportunities Commission and the Commission for Racial Equality have been established to keep the legislation I have mentioned under review.

I have recently set up a Race Relations Employment Advisory Group and there is also a long-standing Advisory Committee on Women's Employment, which has recently been reconstituted.

My Department's Race Relations Employment Advisory Service provides guidance on problems arising in a multiracial workforce; this is now being expanded. Advice about the equal pay and sex discrimination legislation is provided by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service.
