asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will carry out a study into the reductions in the level of unemployment arising from the lowering of the retirement age for men to 64, 63, 62, 61 and 60 years of age respectively: and if he will make a statement.

An article summarising the results of a general review of lowering the retirement age was published in theDepartment of Employment Gazette on 31st March 1978. The Government have also recently extended the job release scheme to the whole country, and, from 1st July, will be increasing allowances under the scheme to £35 a week.
