HC Deb 04 April 1978 vol 947 c98W
Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary, of State for Social Services whether there is a danger from people suffering from psoriasis working on the preparation of foods for human consumption.

Mr. Moyle

I am advised the psoriasis in food handlers does not itself present a danger, since the condition is not transmissible through food. However, the effect of the disease is to give an increased chance that staphyloccocal infection may be carried on the skin, which may cause food poisoning if transmitted to food. There are legal requirements for the Medical Officer for Environment Health to be notified where it is known or suspected that a food-handler suffers from or is the carrier of such an: infection.
