Whether any compensation has been received from any source for coastal and other damage caused to this country by the wreck of the oil tanker "Torrey Canyon" in 1967, and whether any estimate is available of the cost to public funds of that disaster.
The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT Baroness Birk)Her Majesty's Government received £1,500,000 compensation towards expenditure of about £3,400,000 incurred in the public sector in connection with the sinking of M V "Torrey Canyon - in March 1967.
A Statement about the settlement of compensation was made by the Attorney General to the House of Commons on llth November 1969.
