HC Deb 04 April 1978 vol 947 c87W
Mr. Gorst

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the cinematograph licence fee was last raised; what it was at the time it was raised; what it is now; whether he has received any representations for an increase in the present level of the fee; how long ago he received those representations and when he expects to be in a position to announce his decision with regard to any changes in the current level of cinematograph film licence fees.

Mr. John

The fee for an annual cinematograph licence was increased on 1st April 1968 from £1 to £5. Representations that the fee should be increased have been received at various times and an increase is at present under consideration.

Mr. Gorst

asked the Secretary, of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to introduce legislation to enable local authorities to fix the cinematograph film licence fee for cinemas in their own areas.

Mr. John
