§ Mr. Hoyleasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidelines have been issued to the University Grants Committee and universities in relation to the placing of university contracts; if they have been requested not to place orders with companies who have broken the Government guidelines of 10 52W per cent., and asked to cancel contracts with existing suppliers who themselves, or their sub-contractors, may break their guidelines in the future; what representations have been received from the University Grants Committee or universities on this matter; and what action she will take if the University Grants Committee or any university does not comply with the Government's request.
§ Mr. OakesUniversities have on occasion been asked to adopt tendering and contractual practices consonant with paragraph 16 of Command 6882. Neither I nor, I understand, the University Grants Committee have received representations from universities about these requests. The situation envisaged in the last part of the Question has not arisen.
