§ Mr. Litterickasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the per capita value of the grants allocated in 1977–78 by the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries to the North-Western, North, South-West, Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside and South-Eastern Regions, respectively; and what is the value of the proposed allocations for 1978–79, excluding the possible special grant for the Stoke-on-Trent City Museum.
§ Mr. OakesGrants to area museum councils are made on the basis of the programmes submitted and not on a per capita system.
§ Mr. Eyreasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will set 54W out the criteria relating to the allocation of grants to area museum services and the grounds upon which the Midlands Area Council is to receive less than any other area in England for the year 1978–79.
§ Mr. OakesThe grants to the area museum councils are made on the advice of the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries after consultation with the chairmen of the councils.
The standing commission has arranged a meeting with the area council charmen on 20th April and a decision will be taken about the allocation of grants for 1978–79 after that meeting has been held.
