HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c762W
Mr. Ronald Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many school crossing patrol points in Greater London were without patrol attendants; and what steps are being taken to recruit suitable persons to fill the vacancies.

Dr. Summerskill:

392 at the end of September. No significant additional recruitment of patrols can take place at present, for the reasons outlined in my hon. Friend, the Minister of State's, letter to my hon. Friend of 15th August. Nevertheless, where it is not possible to fill a school crossing point, the police are doing what they can, within the resources available to them, to ensure that at least the more dangerous points are given some police supervision.
