asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many road transport firms went bankrupt in 1974, 1975 and 1976; and what approximate aggregate losses in bad debts these represented.

For receiving orders against self-employed persons in England and Wales, the figures are given in Table 4 of the Bankruptcy General Annual Report for 1974, 1975 and 1976. For company liquidations in England and Wales (and in Scotland), the numbers of companies are given in Table 8b of the companies annual report for 1975 and 1976 but the amount of the bad debts is not available. Copies of these publications are in the Library.
