23. Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list the regional development grants paid under the Industry Act 1972 to the assisted areas in 1976 –77, in 1970 prices.

Mr. Alan Williams:

During 1976–77 a total of £408 million regional development grants were paid in respect of expenditure incurred in the calendar years 1973 to 31st March 1977. At 1970 prices, the grants were approximately equivalent to £183 million.
