§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Defence what further steps he has taken to increase the efficiency of recruitment into the Army, the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy; what consideration he has given to job centre orientated recruitment; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Wellbeloved:As I told my hon. Friend on 19th July—[Vol. 935, c. 538–9]—total expenditure on recruiting activities is to be reduced by about £2 million and £5 million over the next two financial years. Considerable progress has already been made in achieving these reductions. I am continuing to examine recruiting expenditure to achieve economies without prejudicing the long-term efficiency of the recruiting organisation. I will continue to bear in mind the possibility of making more use of job centres.
