HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c697W
Mr. Brocklebank-Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list in the Official Report the pensions payable to Ministry of Defence police officers of the rank of assistant chief constable and above, compared with junior officers in the same service.

Dr. Gilbert:

The pensions payable to retired officers of all ranks of the Ministry of Defence Police are based on the length of their reckonable service and their pensionable pay at the time of retirement in accordance with the rules of the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme. The following table is based on reckonable service of 20 years, a retirement date of 31st August 1977 and salary maxima in all cases:

£
Chief Constable 2,662
Deputy Chief Constable 2,110
Assistant Chief Constable 1,819
Chief Superintendent 2,099
Superintendent 1,898
Inspector 1,481

Steps will be taken to ensure that all serving senior Ministry of Defence police officers will be retained until at least 31st August 1978 to give them a full 12 months on the new pay rates due under the 1977 annual settlement to reckon for their pension.

Mr. Brocklebank-Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Ministry of Defence Police assistant chief constables are receiving less than their subordinates in the rank of chief superintendent.

Dr. Gilbert:

Five.
