§ Mr. Critchleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he remains satisfied with present restrictions on the noise levels of imported motor cycles.
§ Mr. Horam:I have been asked to reply.
I attach importance to reducing the noise caused by motor cycles. The EEC is considering a directive under which member States could apply more stringent requirements than those now in force under our law. If such a directive is adopted, proposals will be published for amending the law accordingly. Any new standards would apply, as our present standards do, to all machines, whether imported or home-produced, which are registered in this country after the relevant date.
