HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c868W
Mr. Critchley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he remains satisfied with present restrictions on the noise levels of imported motor cycles.

Mr. Horam:

I have been asked to reply.

I attach importance to reducing the noise caused by motor cycles. The EEC is considering a directive under which member States could apply more stringent requirements than those now in force under our law. If such a directive is adopted, proposals will be published for amending the law accordingly. Any new standards would apply, as our present standards do, to all machines, whether imported or home-produced, which are registered in this country after the relevant date.
