HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc750-1W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is yet able to make a further statement about the phasing-in of mobility allowance claimants.

Mr. Alfred Morris:

I have laid before the House a further commencement order to enable claims to mobility allowance to be made by people who were born on or after 2nd February 1922. Claims will be accepted from 2nd November 1977, and payment of the allowance will start from 1st February 1978. This means that people aged 5 to 55 will now be eligible for the allowance.

We shall be arranging appropriate publicity. I shall also be writing to hon. and right hon. Members seeking their help, for which I have been very grateful in the past, in making these changes widely known.
