HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc838-9W
Mr. Cockcroft

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress he has made towards ensuring the continuance of the activities of the milk marketing boards in the light of obligations under the Treaty of Rome and the Treaty of Accession.

Mr. John Silkin:

As the House has been told on a number of occasions, the Commission is presently studying the Milk Marketing Boards with a view to making appropriate proposals so that their functions can be maintained. The boards' activities must naturally be consistent with the Treaty of Rome and EEC Regulations, but Commissioner Gundelach has told me that he recognises the valuable role which the boards play in the marketing of milk in the United Kingdom and that his aim is to find a solution so that they can continue to function.
