HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc743-4W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average sum allowed to general medical practitioners as expenses not liable to income tax; and what percentage of the average annual remuneration this represents.

Mr. Moyle

I regret that information is not available in the form requested. In 1974–75, however, the latest year for which there are firm estimates, average expenses of unrestricted principals incurred as a result of providing general medical services under the National Health Service are estimated to have been about £4,500. This was a little over 40 per cent. of total average payments to general medical practitioners.
