HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c853W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he accepts the recommendation of his Environmental Board in paragraph 28 of its report that a positive attitude to the potential value of multi-occupation and certification in the rehabilitation of particular parts of older areas might play a useful part in inner city policy; and whether he intends to issue any advice to local authorities in that regard.

Mr. Freeson:

Local authorities have been advised—in Circular 76/77—that, in appropriate circumstances and subject to the provision of adequate amenities, multi-occupation may well have a useful rôle to play. It is a part of the Government policy for the renovation of our inner cities to encourage skilled workers and young professional people to live within such areas where this can be done without detriment to established communities.
