HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c742W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the project of support for rehabilitation of handicapped people with a view to acquiring trade or professional qualifications, for which his Department has received a grant of £46,336 from the Social Fund.

Mr. Moyle

My Department has applied for, and has been awarded, a grant of £46,336 from the European Social Fund in respect of anticipated expenditure in 1977 on demonstration centres in medical rehabilitation. These centres are rehabilitation departments in hospitals which demonstrate the best practices and techniques in the field of medical rehabilitation. There is provision in the regulations for this type of scheme designed to promote good practice in rehabilitation methods, as well as for the training of handicapped people to enable them to acquire trade and professional qualifications, which is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment.
