Mr. Cockroft

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many staff in Her Majesty's Treasury are involved in exchange control activities; what is the cost of this administration; and what this sum represents as a proportion of the total annual value of imports, exports and balance of payments, respectively.

Mr. Robert Sheldon:

Twenty-four in the Exchange Control Division, at an annual cost of approximately £256,000. This sum represents a negligible proportion of the total annual value of imports, exports and balance of payment.
