HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c826W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Transport on what legal authority the Swansea Driving and Vehicle Licensing Centre keeps on its computer record details of endorsements for 12 months longer than they must remain on the driver's licence; and whether he will widely publicise that drivers are entitled to obtain free of charge print-outs from their own records which are kept at his Department unknown to the driver.

Mr. Horam:

The keeping of drivers' licensing records is an integral part of the Secretary of State's functions under the Road Traffic Act 1972 as amended. It is for the Secretary of State to decide the extent to which he keeps records and makes them publicly available, Print-outs of the kind referred to are already available free to drivers who request them and I see no reason for incurring the cost of publicising this.
