HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c850W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the 42 authorities which he stated in his reply to the hon. Member for Eccles on 20th July have made no proposals for building for disabled people at all and make no provisions through adaptation of existing housing.

Mr. Armstrong:

In the light of further inquiries of local authorities, and statistical returns submitted since my answer to my hon. Friend on 20th July, I can now say that there are arrangements to provide for the housing needs of disabled people in all local authority areas in England—whether through the provision of new housing, the adaptation of existing housing, either by the local housing authority or the social services authority, or through sponsorship by housing authorities of housing association provision for disabled people.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to publish the joint circular on housing adaptations for disabled people; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Armstrong:

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Environment, for Social Services and for Wales expect to consult the local authority associations and other interested parties on the basis of a draft of the joint circular before the end of the year.
