HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc737-8W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the current total of children registered on the at risk registers of each of the responsible local authorities in England and Wales.

Mr. Moyle:

I regret that this information is not available centrally. Although most areas now maintain central registers listing children known to have suffered, or thought to be at grave risk of, non-accidental injury, the difficulty of defining non-accidental injury with precision and the fact that, at present, the criteria for including names on registers vary between areas are obstacles to collecting and summarising on a national basis the numbers of children on the registers.
