HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c864W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how long the scaffolding around the Norman Tower in Bury St. Edmunds has been in place; why it has not yet been removed as undertaken a year ago to the hon. Member for Bury St. Edmunds; and when he now expects that it will be taken down.

Mr. Marks

The scaffolding has been in position for two years. External repair work to the tower has been completed and the bells rehung, but leadwork on the roof has been unexpectedly delayed due to contractual difficulties. A contract for this is now being placed and the scaffolding will be removed as soon as the work has been completed.
