HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c708W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the West Midlands Regional Health Authority paid the cost of the computed axial tomography scanners which are in use in Birmingham and Stoke on Trent; and, if so, how much they paid and what proportion this was of the total cost.

Mr. Moyle:

The cost of providing brain scanners for the Birmingham Midland Centre for Neurosurgery and Neurology and the North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary was £125,136 and £157,586 respectively, and these costs were met in full by the West Midlands Regional Health Authority. The cost of the brain and whole body scanner at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham was £250,000 approximately, and was paid for privately. These figures exclude installation costs which are not readily available.
