HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c733W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the revenue coming into the National Health Service of the 36,000 units of blood or components supplied to private hospitals and nursing homes in England and Wales in 1976.

Mr. Moyle

I cannot give a precise estimate of the revenue coming into the National Health Service as a result of the supply of blood and blood components to private hospitals and nursing homes during 1976. As my hon. Friend knows, no charge is made for the blood itself or for the actual components, and any payment made for the pathological services involved would vary from case to case, but the total amounts are likely to be small.
