HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 cc789-90W
Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what action he has taken in 1977 to reduce the impact of aircraft noise in the Twickenham constituency.

Mr. Clinton Davis:

All those living near Heathrow have benefited from an increase in the proportion of movements of less noisy aircraft brought about by the noise certification regulations. I have continued the steady reduction of permitted night movements, although this received a temporary set-back in the late summer as a by-product of industrial action. A meeting will be held on 5th December to review the Mole Valley route, which is of particular interest to the hon. Member's constituents.

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will publish in the Official Report the number of days in each of the last three years when the Kilburn minimum noise route has been used by aircraft departing from Heathrow.

Mr. Clinton Davis:

The information requested by my hon. Friend is as follows:

Year Full day Part day
1974 48 86
1975 59 108
1976 62 106
1977 (January-June) 35 54

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many representations he has received concerning the difficulties experienced by hospitals because of aircraft noise in connection with Heathrow.

Mr. Clinton Davis:

Although I am aware that people in hospitals, as in other buildings, experience disturbance from aircraft noise, the correspondence which my hon. Friend recently forwarded is the only direct representation my Department has received over the past year.
