§ Mr. Albert Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps she proposes to take to bring about the upgrading of schools in parts of the Leeds city area.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonProposals have been submitted by the authority in accordance with section 13 of the Education Act 1944 for the establishment of sixth forms at four secondary schools in north-west Leeds. § Mr. Albert Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will grant loan sanction to Leeds City Council sufficient to meet the needs of demand to provide the additional sixth form places required.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonMy right hon. Friend has recently provided an additional 1977–78 school building allocation of £350,000 to Leeds City Council, and she understands that the authority intends to use some of this to provide additional sixth form places. A request has been made by the authority for an additional allocation in 1978–79 intended in part to provide sixth form places in schools in outer west and north-west Leeds. These sixth forms are the subject of Section 13 proposals on which my right hon. Friend has yet to reach a decision.
