HC Deb 29 November 1977 vol 940 c146W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people have completed Training Services Agency sponsored training or retraining courses in Norfolk during each of the past two years; and for what skills they have been trained.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the available information is as follows:

have appointed and designated officers for this work, but this does not mean that other authorities have done nothing to implement those parts of the Act.

The extent to which local authorities have been able to offer careers guidance to persons undergoing courses in further and higher education as envisaged by the Employment and Training Act, 1973, has been limited in recent years by restrictions on public expenditure and pressure of work with unemployed young people. However, many authorities have managed to make some provision and it is intended that this service shall be developed when funds and staffing levels permit.
