HC Deb 29 November 1977 vol 940 cc191-2W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table showing Scottish emigration in each of

of the year, he will take steps to ensure that finance is available to allow it to continue.

Mr. Millan

I understand that a new area office of the social work department of Strathclyde Region is to be opened in Castlemilk. All services, including those of the Family Service Unit, will be provided from that office. The Social Work Committee of Strathclyde therefore decided that its funding of the Family Service Unit would cease on 31st December 1977. All the staff of the unit have been offered and have accepted appointments with the Strathclyde social work department. I do not consider that it would be appropriate for my Department to give financial assistance to a local service of this kind.
