asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the works under construction or still outstanding or in preparation on the A38 dual carriageway between Birmingham and the M1 at Alfreton, including local flyovers and proposed crash barrier installations and the estimated date of completion of each.

The following works are under constructionStreethay to Streeton—central reserve safety barriers (completion date, January 1978); Branston Service Road (completion date, December 1977); Barton Turn Interchange (completion date, January 1978—already in use); Minor Improvements, Ashbourne Road Island (completion date, January 1978); and Safety fence extension near Findern (completion date, December 1977).

The following are in preparation: Derby Ring Road—Allestree (A5111) (start date subject to current Transport Policy White Paper review and statutory procedures); Safety barrier gap closures Barton—Branston (estimated completion date, autumn 1978); Central reservation gap closures south of Burneston Lane (estimated completion date, mid-1978); Junction improvements, Burneston Lane (estimated completion date, mid-1978); and Grade separation, Alrewas (estimated completion in early 1980s).
