§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether supplementary benefits are paid to students after the beginning of the college year and for any period in which they are in possession of maintenance grants.
§ Mr. OrmeSupplementary benefit is not normally payable during term time except where a student is severely handicapped or is a single parent and his grant income is below his supplementary benefit level. During the short vacations the vacation element in the grant will usually preclude payment of supplementary benefit unless the student is a householder. Most grants contain no maintenance element for the long vacation.
