HC Deb 23 November 1977 vol 939 cc756-7W
Mr. Grocott

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when the report of the National Insurance Advisory Committee on conditions for the receipt of unemployment benefit by seasonal workers is likely to be received; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Orme

The report has been received and is published today—Cmnd 6991. The majority recommendation of the committee was that seasonal workers who claim unemployment benefit in their off-seasons should still have to satisfy additional conditions but that there should be some easements in the present conditions.

We accept the recommendations of the committee. Since, however, they will involve some additional cost, their implementation will depend on the priority which they can be given within the resources available for social security expenditure.
