HC Deb 23 November 1977 vol 939 cc787-8W
46. Mr. Peter Bottomley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the latest figures for housing starts in the public and private sectors.

Mr. Armstrong

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given earlier today by my right hon. Friend to my hon. Friend the Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner).

60. Mr. Douglas-Mann

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest estimate of the number of local authority housing starts in 1977–78 and 1978–79.

Mr. Armstrong

We have made provision for about 95,000 local authority Starts in England in both 1977 and 1978. Progress has been disappointing so far this year, but I hope that local authorities will make every effort to catch up on the current shortfall.
